The mole connects microscopic particles with measurable quantities. Use n=m/M, where n is moles, m is mass, and M is molar mass.
Molar concentration is calculated as C=n/V. Remember that volume must be expressed in litres. Many errors come from ignoring units.
Worked example
A sample contains 18 g of water. Water has molar mass 18 g/mol. The amount is n=18/18=1 mol. If dissolved in 2 litres, concentration equals 0.5 mol/L.
