1. Inclined Planes & Friction

For a mass m on an incline of angle θ:

  • Parallel force component: F_parallel = m · g · sin(θ)
  • Normal force: N = m · g · cos(θ)
  • Acceleration (no friction): a = g · sin(θ)

Worked example

A 4 kg block slides down a 30° incline. With g = 10 m/s²: a = 10 × sin(30°) = 10 × 0.5 = 5 m/s².
