Part 1 of 1
Multi-column tables contain large amounts of information. Read column headers and row labels before diving into questions. Pay attention to footnotes explaining abbreviations or currency units.
To answer a question, identify the exact row-column intersection. Use a finger or scratch paper edge to align row and column visually to avoid reading adjacent cells by mistake.
Worked example
Table displays Company sales by region (North, South, East, West) across 4 quarters. Question: 'What were South sales in Q3?'. Locate row 'South', scan to column 'Q3', read cell value.
1.Auditing column headers and footnotes before answering table questions prevents unit misinterpretation.
2.Row labels in complex financial tables always list categories in alphabetical order.
3.Visual alignment using a straight edge reduces misreading adjacent table cells.
