Data tables present structured numerical information across rows and columns. Always read row headers, column labels, and measurement units (e.g. thousands, millions, percentages) before attempting calculations.
Percentage share formula: Share (%) = (Category Value / Total Value) × 100. Percentage change formula: Change (%) = ((Final Value - Initial Value) / Initial Value) × 100.
Worked example
1.Percentage change is calculated by dividing the absolute change by the final value.
2.If a category value is 30 out of a total of 120, its percentage share is 25%.
3.Units in data tables must always be checked before comparing row values.
